Happy new year

Goodbye 2004. Here's to 2005, which will begin with trying to buy a new computer and trying to buy a new house. It's going to be a cold night in Calgary tonight, so it's a quick trip to Sushi Yoko (the best sushi place in town) followed by board games in a nice warm home. No big parties, must save money, new computer, new house.

Homer uses tabbed browsing

From redemption in a blog
I just watched the latest episode of The Simpsons and guess what? Homer uses a web browser with tabbed browsing!
homer tabbed browsing
Click to zoom Tabbed browsing is just one great feature that the excellent Internet browser Firefox has, and IE doesn't. You should try it.

Anti-telemarketing script

I love those times on Seinfeld when Jerry got back at the telemarketers. Of course, as a fictional character in a TV show, Jerry had the advantage of planning out what to say. In real life your up against someone who has a carefully developed script and response list that makes it very hard to talk your way off nicely. Really your only quick and painless option is to hang-up, but even against these hated telemarketers I find that hard. A "cold" hang-up just goes against the telephone etiquette conscience built up in the back of my mind. Well now there's a solution, the EGBG anti-telemarketing counterscript. A taste of their own medicine.

The easily offended

Lone Activist Group Submits 99.8% of FCC Complaints Complaints about TV in the US are up: 350 in 2001 14,000 in 2002 240,000 in 2003 So it turns out 99.8% are from the "Parents Television Council". No doubt people who only have sex with the lights out. So to say.

Denver (and town cars are better than cabs)

I was just in Denver for a quick business meeting. I can't help but notice how similar the Colorado city is to Calgary. Overall a good trip because our meeting went well and the hotel was nice. Free drinks and snacks for guests every night and a free breakfast every morning. (a REAL breakfast too, not just a slice of cantaloupe). Unfortunately I once again had bad Denver cab experiences. Cabbies who smoke, don't know where the hotel is, old stinky vehicles, etc. On the last day we took a town car to the airport instead and that was way better. And the cost is about the same. When we got back we took another town car from the airport and it too was a much nicer experience for barely more cost than a cab. The cost isn't as close if you're by yourself though.
