What's wrong with selling (out)?

Muchmusic just had this episode of "The New Music" where some artists were complaining about other artists who sell their music for use in commercials. Like doing that somehow makes them less worthy as a musician or something. Whatever. I've found a lot of great music because of commercials, stuff I probably wouldn't have heard of (or been reminded of) otherwise. And there's nothing wrong making money doing what you love.

An Office Space moment

Tai was feeling stressed so we went out to the Alley and destroyed a large, non-functioning RAID card. It felt good, but would have been better if the thing shattered. Compaq made a surprisingly durable card. Physically durable that is, not "keep the server running" durable.

I get it now, laptops are cool

I've had a laptop as my personal computer for about 2 months now. I like it. I like a lot. I'm on the couch, I'm traveling, I'm at Second Cup, the wireless life rocks. I doubt I could ever be happy with desktop again. My dad was over and saw me using the Internet from anywhere I want and I think a wireless renovation at their place isn't too far off...

For those who are interested, after much research I purchased a refurbished HP Pavilion zt3000 with WSXGA+ on eBay. For what I need, this machine has turned out to be pretty much perfect. I like it. I like it a lot.

I was considering an Apple PowerBook. The main reason I didn't get one? Their screens are way too low resolution. I'll put more reasons on why I didn't' get a PowerBook or another consideration, the Toshiba M200 Tablet PC, on this blog over the next week. (Hint: I want a desktop replacement Tablet PC)

Be concerned about your freedom on the Internet in Canada

Say no to Big Brother plan for Internet is an somewhat alarming article by University of Ottawa law professor Michael Geist:
With Canada conceivably ready to adopt rules that make it far easier to remove an allegedly infringing song than to remove dangerous child pornography from a new fee-based, surveillance-ready, packet preferenced Internet, it is difficult to overstate how out of touch our Internet policy process has become.
Almost as bad is the part of the proposed system that would force "schools to pay millions of dollars for content that is currently freely available on the Internet". If you're concerned about security, privacy, or even VOIP (broadband phones), I recommend you read that article. You can read more details on it in The Truth About Copyright Revision. I guess my next step is to write my MP (MP lookup by postal code) and the ministers.

The burbs

Here we are now, transplanted from downtown to the far (far) suburbs. But I gotta say, I'm liking living so close to a huge suburban shopping center. I've had to switch to the How-To people from the people who told me I could it and they could help (more or less the same). That place is turning out to be dangerous for me, it's so easy to convince myself I need every drill attachment there is. Now that I've, um, got a house - yah that's it.
