Rib Powered

I had the full back rib entrée at Joey's tonight. I was worried I'd feel too full or something, but on the contrary I feel powerful. Like I could demolish a building with my bare hands.

Myth: Cell phones are a risk in hospitals

Mayo Clinic: Cell Phones in Hospitals OK

The researchers say their study of cell phones dispels "the long-held notion that they are unsafe to use in healthcare Latest News about healthcare facilities."

I remember reading about an American at a hospital in China surprised to see people using mobile phones everywhere. He asked about it and was told there was no danger. The Mayo Clinic is saying that's true. So why can't we use mobile phones in hospitals here? Good question.

Vegas Trip Photos

Vegas 2007

We stayed at Luxor and I golfed at National. I played a few hands in the poker room including flopping a nut flush, putting the other guy all in, then having him catch a full house on the turn. The pot was about $140 which is a spicy meatball when the blinds are $1 - $2.

A definite highlight for me was seeing Penn & Teller perform. I enjoyed it all, from the signature magic bullet trick, to their fierce skepticism of all things supernatural.

Update from Tuesday

First, it was a quiet Tuesday. Once we get the remaining servers moved from Rackspace to 1and1 things will *fingers crossed* get even better.

Second, that night's "Roger & Dutch Poker League" season 3 opener was fantastic. Not only did I beat Jesse V, I placed 2nd for the night. That's a solid 9 point opener for the season. First place? Dave H!

You got to know when to hold em...

Canadian Mobile Reality

Wireless Number Portability Just a First Step

Michael Geist does a nice job summing up the lousy mobile phone situation faced by Canadian consumers.

Emboldened by limited competition, providers have not hesitated to pad their prices by adding the deceptive "system access fee." Contrary to popular belief, the fee, which adds nearly $100 per year to every wireless phone bill, is not a government-mandated charge but rather a slick method of camouflaging higher prices.

Looks Like It Will Be a Quiet Tuesday

Yesterday was quiet at work. That's only remarkable because the previous two weeks had been so busy reacting to bugs in the new version. I like to think Monday was so easy because of all the fixes, but it probably had more to do with many of our users being in Vegas. Today is the last day of the show.

And it's also the first day of season 3 of the Roger & Dutch poker tournament. There's a lot of buzz around new addition to the table, Jesse V. But I'm barely scared of him, I placed 3rd in season 2.

Maher vs. Maher

EDITED: I had to change this to reflect the truth brought to my attention by a comment. And here I thought only my Dad read this blog...

I still think Maher's reply is funny. But as was pointed out in the comments, "funny" Maher didn't mention that the other Maher no longer works for the Family Research Council and if I had bothered to check I would have found they clarified their stance saying they back the vaccine.

After extensive study of the vaccine and discussion with medical experts, we concluded that the public health benefits of developing and distributing such a vaccine far outweighed any potential, hypothetical concerns about its impact on sexual behavior..
