Quantum of Bonds

I appreciate a good trailer mashup, even if they're messing with Bond. This is from the people behind Journey at the Center of the Earth and Battle of the Batmans among others.

For Kubrick Fans

The letters of Stanley Kubrick. The Telegraph has excerpts from letters that give an new view of the famous director's personality.

Tad Michel, Manager of the hotel seen in The Shining: "It is very probable that once the movie is released and known locally we might have serious difficulties in renting out room 217 as some of our guests could be afraid of being chased by the blooded body of the bath tub lady…"
Reply: "Dear Tad, Thank you again for all your help – It is now room 237, Best Regards, Stanley."

Judging a movie by its trailer

Same old same old. Goofy-looking evil ______ can only be stopped by goofy-looking original ______.

Save us Christian Bale, you're our only hope in 2008. And I do realize that the basic formula I outlined above also describes one of the greatest films of all time. The key difference is that James Cameron doesn't do goofy-looking.

Futurama is back!

Purchased and watched the first new Futurama since 2003, Bender's Big Score. It's the first of 4 DVD movies that will be shown as 16 episodes of the new season.

Fox cancelled Family Guy then brought it back a few years later due to strong DVD sales and rerun popularity. We've won the same battle with Futurama, but unlike the new Family Guy episodes, I think this new Futurama is as good as the best of originals. It has me excited about the series again. Also, it's among the best handling of time travel in sci-fi.

Jon director Pierre Rehov who interviewed attempted suicide bombers for his documentary Suicide Killers. I like his Nazi comparison at the end.

Cars: Tied for best looking movie of the year

We finally watched Pixar's Cars. Great movie, and i'd say as good looking as X3 on our home theater. It's going to be hard to pick a "Best picture quality" winner at this Jadies.

Borat's tricks

Borat

Ever wonder how they get people to have what they think is a real interview with Borat? Here's one story: How I was duped by Ali G.

I don’t know what motivates Borat/Cohen to use his considerable talents to deceive and manipulate: maybe it’s his way of gaining power over the childhood sting of religious animosity or the feelings of inferiority from a woman’s beating him at Scrabble.

Yah right, or maybe it's the millions of dollars.

Battlestar Galactica

Several months ago I stopped going to the theater in anticipation of our home system and never having to go to a theater again. Even before that, I had stopped trying to watch most shows on TV. I prefer to wait and watch them at my schedule on DVD, plus the quality is better and there are no commercials. Like movies, those shows have been on hold while I wait for the new system...

Well now that it's done I've been playing catch-up. One of the first is the new Battlestar Galactica, and wow, it's really good. And then there's 24 season 3 on, Sopranos season 5 on, Oz season 6...

Race cars, Mobsters, and Pirates

What distracted me today:

  • A driver's view video from a race car on a mountain road. By the way, that's definitely not an Audi R8 as the video is titled, it's probably a Norma M20. What a ride.
  • What do a totaled million dollar Ferrari, bankrupt portable game company, exaggerated California bus police force, and the Swedish Mafia of Uppsala have in common? Apparently one Stefan Eriksson. What a story.
  • And the film industry continues to blame the drop in theater revenue on pirates. What a shame.

Saw Batman Begins on Saturday

And it's just what I was hoping for (but not quite perfect). Nice to see it's already climbing its way up the Internet Move Database Top 250. Now all that remains is for Christopher Nolan to knockout Joel Schumacher on the red carpet and bring balance to the force.

The Incredibles - Wow

We just got back, what a great movie. This is probably Pixar's best yet, and that's saying a lot. And there was so much in the movie that wasn't shown at all in the trailer, for once.

Just watching my new Star Wars DVDs

I'm taking a break from 24 season 2 to watch the new Star Wars DVDs. They look and sound amazing. I also like the subtle improvements to the improvements made a few years ago. So far I have to say well done and highly recommended to any Star Wars fans. And "Empire" is still the best of all the Star Wars movies.
